What is Mead?
Mead (in English: mead, pronounced /miːd/) is one of the oldest fermented beverages in the world: made from honey and water, fermented with yeast. It can be still, sparkling, or spumante, dry or sweet, plain or flavored with fruit, spices, or — as in the case of Mead Citra — hops.
Sparkling vs Spumante Mead
- Sparkling: light bubbles, moderate pressure — fresh and direct, highlights citrus and floral notes
- Spumante: strong and persistent bubbles, high pressure — great as an aperitif or with fruit-based desserts
How to Serve Mead Citra
- Temperature: 8–12 °C to enhance the citrus aromas of Citra
- Glassware: tulip or white wine glass to concentrate the aromas — discover the glasses on Maltese
- Storage: in a cool place away from light; once opened, consume within a few days
Food Pairings
- Soft cheeses (robiola, brie, goat cheese)
- Light fish and shellfish
- Tropical fruit and citrus-based desserts
- Artisanal snacks for an original aperitif
