In 1988, the then mathematics professor Jeff Van Den Steen and the lawyer
Dirk De Pauw met in Erpe-Mère, discovering their shared passion for homebrewing: they brewed beer at home. Soon after, they began collaborating with increasingly conscious experiments, and after a couple of years, they embarked on a more technical course of study, which they completed together in 1994. But before opening the De Glazen Toren brewery, they spent another ten years studying and deepening their understanding of the world of
beer in all its aspects. From the very first batches of Saison D’Erpe-Mère, the brewery achieved great success both at home and in the United States, eventually exporting their beers to many countries around the world, including Italy.
Over the years, we have also fallen in love with the Tripel, Ondineke, and the Dubbel Blanche, Jan De Lichte. Another beer for which De Glazen Toren is well-known and appreciated is Canaster, described as a Scotch Ale, but with a distinctly more Belgian than British appearance.
