Chimay

Our story began when the curate of Virelles, Abbot Jean-Baptiste Jourdain, and the Prince of Chimay, Joseph de Riquet de Caraman, in 1850, entrusted a mission to a dozen monks from Westvleteren who settled on the plateaus of Scourmont for a purpose they still pursue today: “To help the CHIMAY region.”
To this end, they decided to produce beer from the water that nature generously provided on these marshy plateaus. Later, they also created cheese...
And we owe this story to the men and women who have worked and continue to work to preserve this ancestral know-how while respecting the rules of Chimay.
A thriving story that has lasted many years, based on strong values, social and environmental, that are more relevant than ever.
