Session New England IPA: what it is and why choose it
The Session NEIPA combines the soft, fruity aromatic profile of the New England IPA with a lower alcohol content. Soft body, hazy appearance, tropical and stone fruit aromas, moderate bitterness.
Comparison between IPA styles
Florida IPA
Not an official style: indicates very aromatic IPAs with additions of exotic fruits or spices, fruity/tropical profile. More a local trend than a standardized category.
San Diego IPA vs NEIPA
The San Diego scene is famous for very hoppy IPAs with pronounced bitterness and clarity — close to the West Coast IPA concept. NEIPA instead focuses on haze and fruity aromas.
West Coast IPA vs New England IPA
- Appearance: West Coast is clear, NEIPA is hazy.
- Aromas: West Coast is resinous/citrusy, NEIPA is soft and fruity.
- Bitterness: West Coast is drier and more bitter; NEIPA is softer and juicier.
Imperial IPA vs Session IPA
The Imperial (Double) IPA has higher alcohol, more body, and more intensity. The Session IPA aims to be light and easy to drink while maintaining hop aromas.
A practical example: Half T.S.O.
Inspired by TSO but with half the alcohol: Session IPA with a New England character, fruity aromas, and soft body. Perfect to understand the style.

How to serve it best
- Temperature: 6–8°C to enhance aromas without numbing them.
- Pairings: salads, sushi, ceviche, fresh cheeses (robiola, burrata), lightly spiced cuisine.
- Store in a cool, dark place: the freshness of the hops is crucial.
