Bitter beer chickpea burgers with yogurt sauce
Chickpea patties flavored with Bitter beer, grilled and served as a summer-style burger with a fresh yogurt and mint sauce. Vegetarian, flavorful, and perfect for the barbecue.
Ingredients (for 4 people)
For the burgers
- 400 g cooked chickpeas (or 1 drained can)
- 100 ml Bitter beer
- 80 g breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- 1 garlic clove
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Extra virgin olive oil to taste
For the yogurt sauce
- 200 g Greek yogurt
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- Fresh chopped mint to taste
- Salt to taste
To serve
- 4 burger buns
- Arugula to taste
- Sliced tomatoes
- Red onion rings
Instructions
- Sauce – Mix Greek yogurt, lemon juice, chopped mint, and salt. Keep refrigerated until serving.
- Chickpeas – Drain and rinse the chickpeas. Roughly blend them with a mixer—they should remain a bit grainy, not creamy.
- Dough – In a bowl, mix the blended chickpeas with breadcrumbs, egg, minced garlic, cumin, paprika, salt, and pepper. Add the Bitter beer and knead until you get a firm mixture.
- Rest – Shape 4 burgers with wet hands. If the mixture is too soft, add more breadcrumbs. Let rest in the fridge for 15 minutes.
- Cooking – Cook the burgers on a grill or non-stick pan with a drizzle of oil, 5-6 minutes per side over medium heat, until golden.
- Assembly – Toasted bun, arugula, tomato, chickpea burger, yogurt sauce, and red onion. Serve with a well-chilled Bitter!
Recommended beer
🍺 Bitter – Its bitter and aromatic note enhances the spices in the dough and perfectly balances the freshness of the yogurt sauce.
