What is a Hazy IPA?
- Appearance: hazy or milky — proteins, yeast in suspension, and hop residues
- Aroma: intense tropical fruit (mango, pineapple, passion fruit), citrus, floral
- Taste: smooth and juicy, mild bitterness (20–30 IBU) — very different from a West Coast IPA
- Body: medium-light but velvety, waxy sensation from oats
Hazy IPA vs West Coast IPA: the differences
- Hazy/NEIPA: hazy, juicy, soft bitterness, tropical and fruity notes
- West Coast IPA: clear, dry, sharp and resinous bitterness, pine and citrus notes
How to taste a Hazy IPA
- Temperature: 6–8 °C — cold to enhance fruity freshness
- Glass: tulip or nonic — discover glasses on Maltese
- Freshness: consume within 2–3 months — hop aromatic oils degrade quickly
- Pouring: carefully to preserve the characteristic haze
Food pairings
- Spicy Asian cuisine: spicy sushi, light curries
- Grilled fish and shellfish
- Soft fresh cheeses
- Tropical fruit and fruity desserts
- Artisanal snacks for a fruity aperitif
