To Øl — Born in the Kitchens of a Copenhagen School, 9th Best Brewery in the World in 2014

To Øl is a young Danish craft brewery founded in 2010. But the story began earlier: in 2005, Tore Gynther and Tobias Emil Jensen were studying at Det Fri Gymnasium in Nørrebro, Copenhagen. During school closures, they secretly entered the kitchens and turned them into a beer production laboratory: mashing malts, boiling hops, inoculating yeast, fermenting in laboratory flasks. The research had begun.

A Meteoric Rise

• 2010 — first commercial beer under the To Øl brand
• 2012 — entered Ratebeer’s list of the 100 best producers in the world
• 2014 — awarded as the 9th best brewery in the world
• 2017 — Tobias Emil Jensen leaves To Øl to focus on other projects

We were tired of century-old breweries claiming their territories just because of age — not tradition. We wanted to give beer a bit of youthfulness. That’s why we make contemporary beers: powerful, provocative, fresh, and floral; hoppy, balanced, and complex. We never compromise on taste and keep pushing beyond the boundaries of standard production.
