Why Order a Craft Dark Beer

If you are looking for a beer with character, body, and depth, you are in the right place. Dark beers range from sessionable Dry Stout (4%) to meditative Imperial Stout (10-15%), including balanced Porters, malty Brown Ales, and aging Barley Wines. There is a dark style for every occasion.

Styles You Find on Maltese

• Stout — Dry, Sweet, Oatmeal, Imperial, Milk: the most iconic, with notes of coffee and chocolate
• Porter — originated in London in the 1700s, balanced and sessionable
• Black IPA — the best of both worlds: roasted + tropical hops
• Brown Ale — hazelnut, caramel, biscuit: smooth and approachable
• Barley Wine and Old Ale — meditation beers, perfect for winter or cellar aging
• Dunkel and Rauchbier — dark German lagers, clean and smoky

Recommended Pairings

Red meats, braises, game, aged cheeses, dark chocolate, cocoa desserts, oysters (with Stout), smoked barbecue. Dark beers hold up to pairings that no other style can manage.

How to Serve Them Best

Serve them at cellar temperature (10-14°C) in a pint glass for Stout and Porter, in a snifter for Imperial Stout and Barley Wine. Excessive cold dulls the aromas — let them breathe for a few minutes before drinking.
